Welcome to Anki!

For those of you who don't know Anki, here is the website:

Anki is described as an "friendly, intelligent flashcard program." You can find details information and instructions on how to use it.

I, my wife, and many friends have been using it for over two years to study Japanese and have found it to be extremely effective. There is an addictive element to Anki that makes us want to study more and more - a wonderful thing when trying to study anything.

Also, the iPhone app makes it extremely easy and effective to study while walking, on the train, and in those few minutes between other things. By using it in little bursts throughout the day, a lot of studying can be accomplished.

  1. Hello,
I'm brazilian and living in Seoul, south of Korea.
Last week after returned to my korean language class, I started using anki to make my own vocabulary cards.
I use desktop version to make my decks (with images and audio) after export to my android devices, cellphone and tablet.

  2. Dear Urly,

Thanks for the comment. Glad to hear you are having success with Anki. It has really helped my Japanese. Have you looked for any shared decks of Korean materials on the Anki web server?

For example, I made cards for my Rosetta Stone Japanese materials and shared them on the Anki server. Some other people have downloaded them already. I'm happy it helps someone else.

Are you using Anki for any teaching?

  3. Hey Rich,

Just thought I would give props to making this website. I used to teach at High School in Japan, and used Anki in class with some success, but since not everyone had access to a computer at school, it could only go so far. For my own study of Japanese, it was great. Now, I'm studying in Taiwan, using Anki to learn both modern and classical Chinese. Good on ya, and good luck!

  4. Dear Thomas,

Thanks for the comment! Wow, Chinese, ne? Japanese is hard enough for me. How does it compare?

In terms of teaching with Anki, I won't pester you with too many questions, but I'd be curious to know if you had any advice or eureka moments that might help other teachers using Anki.

I think we all agree that Anki is awesome. The main problem is to get our students to see that AND to actually use it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Rich

  5. Dear Mex,

Thanks for the comment. Sorry to take so long in responding, but it is the end of the semester here, and things are crazy...

What are you studying with Anki?

And, how are using Anki for teaching? What subject? How do the students access their decks, etc?

    Love to hear more!

    Cheers,

    Rich
